A Rustic, Relaxed Wedding on Rutland Water

Photographing weddings at Normanton Church is one of my favourite privileges as a wedding photographer in Rutland. I’ve shot many weddings here over the years, and every time I go I feel so lucky to have this beautiful place right on my doorstep. There’s not many places in the UK where you can get legally married on the water, and I think Normanton Church Museum must surely be up there as the best.

Debs and Jordan got in touch with me about their wedding photography in 2018 and picked the Sunday of a May bank holiday weekend for their date.  They wanted a relaxed wedding with a rustic theme, and chose Normanton Park Hotel as their reception venue. I always jump for joy when I get a wedding there because it’s right next to the church, meaning you can pop out for sunset photos if you’re lucky with the weather.

And lucky we were. The day started off dry, promptly started raining as the ceremony began and then cleared up again before anyone really noticed. Believe it or not the wind was pretty wild, meaning Debs had a job keeping her veil in but she totally styled it out. One of my favourite shots in this set is a wild veil photo, I love it when couples book me for a mixture of documentary and creative photography to capture real moments like that.

I must say a huge thank you to our second shooter for the day, Ben, who started the day with Jordan and the boys getting ready in Stamford and helped capture the ceremony and drinks reception with me. I feel it’s an absolute *must* to have a second shooter at Normanton Church, simply because the ceremony is so beautiful from both angles and thee’s simply no way you can get full coverage here without one.
