Krystle & James’ Wedding Photography at Blake Hall

Krystle and James’ wedding photography at Blake Hall.

Blake Hall is one of those venues I’ve been secretly hoping to photograph for years. I’d driven past it so many times and seen tonnes of beautiful photos online – it looked right up my street in so many ways.  But since Blake Hall is in Essex and I’d recently moved up to Lincolnshire I thought my chance to shoot there had probably gone… until Krystle and James came along.

I first met Krystle at a friend’s wedding way back in 2012 and she later went on to recommended me for her brother’s wedding two years later.  Both weddings were full of happy, friendly guests, so when Krystle got in touch about her own wedding I was over the moon. It’s always lovely when you work with the same bunch of friends and families and you know a bit more about the dynamics and what to look out for. When she added it was taking place at Blake Hall that was the best bonus I could ask for!

Krystle and James got married in late October  and I think we were all secretly hoping the weather and autumn colour would hold out for just long enough for their day. As you can see we were incredibly lucky, all the flowers were still out in full bloom at Blake Hall and we even got a spot of sunshine later in the afternoon, making it warm enough for a few drinks and photos outside. Their ceremony took place at nearby Waltham Abbey which has one of the most beautiful churches I’ve ever seen. From a photography perspective it was a tricky one with extremely low light, but thankfully the vicar was pretty generous with coverage so I could work a few angles to find some well-lit spots. They had some gorgeous readings from friends and also a gospel choir which were a total hit all-round!

When we got back to Blake Hall for the drinks reception a secret plan was brewing. James had arranged for Krystle’s horse, Mickey, to come and pay a special visit to the wedding. A few of us in the know were on a secret mission to distract her while Mickey arrived behind the scenes which was pretty nerve-wracking and exciting!! Under the guise of it being time for family photos we got Krystle outside where she clapped eyes on him for the first time. Such a sweet moment, everyone was smiling and Mickey seemed as cool as a cucumber!
