I think all wedding photographers remember the Summer of 2018 as the never ending wedding heatwave. Weeks upon weeks of hot weather and glorious sunshine but typically – this was the year I decided to take my first Summer holiday in years and missed out on most of it. Typical!
Still, I definitely got a few sunny and warm weddings that year, and I’ll always remember Olivia and Alex’s as one of my favourites. They got married in a small village just north of Grantham, with a church ceremony and then held the reception in Olivia’s parents’ stunning garden. The views were incredible from the house on the hill, with the scent of the never-ending rose borders filling the air. I’m a huge fan of marquee weddings at home, they are so personal and I love how they have a spirit all of their own. No wedding co-ordinators, no fixed plans. Everything just happens when it happens which means as a photographer you’ve got to be really on the ball not to miss things. In hot weather it’s a lot of hard work as a wedding photographer, but I love the challenge anyway.
What sticks in my mind about this wedding is, of course, the beautiful roses but also the guard of honour with hockey sticks leaving church, the amazing food and crazy dance floor. What a day. I hope these pictures bring a smile to your face.
