So, here we are. Our lives are on pause and I am so sorry your wedding plans have been be affected by coronavirus. I can’t imagine the stress of not knowing what’s going on when your wedding is only a few months away, I really want to offer you my support and help where I can.
Even though it all feels pretty bleak, it’s important to know that there is light at the end of the tunnel and you can still have the wedding you’ve always wanted, it might just be on a different date.
I haven’t emailed some of you just yet because I don’t want to add to your anxiety, but it’s important you know what options are available should you decide to postpone. I am still fully committed to you and your wedding and will support you as much as I can whichever route you take, please know you can always email or phone me if you want to talk about anything.
My Heartfelt Advice
Many of you have expressed your main worry is not knowing what to do and feel unsure of whether to risk keeping your original 2020 date. The sad fact is nobody knows the answer, so the only advice I can truly offer is to weigh up the positives and negatives of postponing vs. that uncertainty. Particularly those of you with large weddings or with key guests coming from abroad.
Are you happy to accept the possibility of having a smaller event on your original date or would you feel better knowing you can stick to your original vision but wait a while longer?
There are ways you can still celebrate on your original date (it may even be possible to have a small ceremony then a big party next year) so please contact me if you want to talk about ideas. Whatever you are feeling, it is worth considering your options now so you’re prepared if government advice changes later in the season.
My Process for Postponements
I am doing my best to keep everything simple to reduce anxiety and stress for all involved. If you decide to postpone your wedding and I am available for your new date, I will simply transfer your booking over with no fuss.
If you move to 2021 your remaining balance will remain the same but if you had a Second Shooter, their cost may need to be revised. My Second Shooters are independent contractors who also run their own businesses, so I will need to check with them on a case by case basis.
In order to reserve popular 2021 dates and keep my business running over this long period of downtime, I am asking all couples to pay an advance portion of their remaining balance. This will effectively act as a ‘new deposit’ so I can secure your new wedding date. I am suggesting an early payment of £350 where possible.
If you move to a Saturday in 2022 I will (unfortunately) need to add on a nominal fee to cover the increase in prices for that season.
If I am not available on your new date there will be no cancellation fees. Your original booking fee (deposit) is non-refundable as it covers the work done prior to your wedding such as admin, meetings and pre-wedding shoots. If I secure a new wedding for your original date I will ensure this is returned to you. As a good will gesture I will make enquiries on your behalf to see if any other photographers I know are available.
If you are keen to keep some elements of your booking with me it could be an option to source an associate photographer to shoot on my behalf, and I will edit the photos. This option will be offered on a case by case basis as it depends if any of my regular associates are available.
If you decide to postpone your wedding to next year, it is important to know that 2021 is already very busy for all wedding suppliers across the UK. Many of us already had a busy diary for 2021 before lockdown began, so coupled with the postponements from 2020 there are fewer dates available than usual. We are all squeezing two years worth of work into one and sadly there will be instances where I cannot accommodate some postponements. As many of you know I only take on a limited number of weddings each year to ensure I can devote enough time to every couple and keep my work of a consistent standard. Unfortunately I am fast reaching the absolute maximum of 30 bookings for 2021 (20 as of May 11th 2020).
If you have a lot of different suppliers and want to keep as many as possible, I would highly recommend choosing a new date which is not a peak Saturday.
Many of your suppliers will have Thursdays, Fridays and even Sundays still available. It’s also worth remembering that some of your guests may have already been invited to other postponed weddings on next year’s peak Saturdays too. If you have a very exclusive or private venue it may be easier to choose a peak date, but be sure to check with your other suppliers before committing.
The dates below may change quickly and without prior warning, so please keep an eye on them if you’re keen to keep your booking with me:
Dates in red are available Saturdays
Dates in bold black are available Fridays
Dates in blue are on hold for provisional, unconfirmed bookings
(to keep things fair blue dates will be assigned to whoever confirms first)
Dates in green with a* are dates that might be possible, but will depend on your wedding location
